bike1The Association held a Networking Night on Tuesday 28th July hosted by the Troy and Kim from “Yellow Jersey Bike Shop” – 779 Stanley St, Woolloongabba. Yellow Jersey is a family owned and operated business in Woolloongabba and Ipswich, providing quality bikes to all levels of riders.

Approximately 16 members and guests attended and enjoyed the Yellow Jersey hospitality.

Troy and Kim organised the guest speaker Ryan Bayley. Well what a treat – Ryan, surprise, surprise is a cyclist and works at the Yellow Jersey Ipswich store.

Ryan is a conservative, unassuming family man – just like any other person you would pass in the street. But like Clark Kent, Superman’s alter ego, there is a super hero hiding under his day clothes.

Ryan Bayley won two Gold Medals at the 2004 Athens Olympics in the Sprint and Keiren events on the track. We watched the races on the Yellow Jersey’s video system and then Ryan selflessly gave his time to answer the many questions from members and guests.

It was a special night, to hear Ryan’s story and to be up close and personal with a local Olympic hero. He brought his Olympic Gold Medals and his many Commonwealth Games Gold and Silver Medals – the first time I have held an Olympic Gold Medal in the palm of my hand.

In 2005 Ryan was awarded the “Order of Australia – OAM” for his services to sport.

What a great night – a big GBA thank you to Troy, Kim and Ryan
